All players need to be at the playing field at least 45 minutes before game time,
ready to play. This is important for the following reasons:
- Warm Up.
- Check in with the referee.
- So I can get a visual check as to who is there!
- 30 minutes is a Metro requirement, the extra 15, is the coaches.
Any player arriving at the game, after referee check in, may
have to wait until the second half to play. This also forfeits the "half a game playing time"
I try to support. Being on time is an important level of respect players should
show their other team mates, and when it comes to life in general.
This year, I will be working with trainers during practice. My job as a coach really ends when they play a game. My goal
during the games this year is simply to watch and take notes for the next weeks practices.
As the coach, it's my job at practices to build team & individual skills, boost confidence,
encourage proper presentation & attitude and most of all, to still have fun.
Winning comes far down on the list of my priorities, but winning is also a
lot easier when all these criteria are second nature to the kids.
I will sacrifice winning a game to get these points across to the kids.
Do notice though, that the kids are starting to get a clearer idea about winning,
and to some it's becoming important. It's also my job to help these children learn
to put things in perspective. When the win, they win as a team, no matter who scores
goals, or plays goalie, or kicks more, and when they loose they loose as a team as well.
These are invaluable skills and attitudes to have as the children get older.
This year, I also plan to focus on how to deal with more intense competitiveness. It will exist
in the real world, especially in school, and it's important the kids learn the value of competitiveness while
still maintaining integrity and a good attitude/sportsmanship.
Game Attire - When the kids arrive at the game, I expect to see the following
when they enter the field... please take 2 minutes when they get out of the car to come to the field to run
through this check list:
- Full Metro uniform with proper shirt color for that particular game
- Tucked in shirts (I want the kids to take pride in their uniform and themselves)
- No Jewelry.
- Long hair tied up and secured.
